Inspired by Sophie Calle's "Hotel Room" series, I wanted to create a project that investigates people's houses/apartments and what they say about them as a person. When we are in the outside world, where the public can see us, we often wear a 'mask' that makes us socially acceptable. In simple words, we must consider what is appropriate and inappropriate for public settings, meaning that we can't do whatever we want. For this project, I want to question and dive deep into what people are like when they are alone. What do people wear at home, and what do people's private places look like? Am I going to find hobbies of people that no one knows of? Or will I see things that completely change my views on a person? What does a person's home tell about themselves compared with what we can see about the person when in a public setting? I want to challenge the idea of privacy and publicness and create this work using the medium of photo.
